The NILU interactive webpage for FLEXPART products

This interactive webpage is maintained by Sabine Eckhardt and Andreas Stohl , NILU Norway, (developed by Caroline Forster and Owen Cooper, NOAA Aeronomy Laboratory Boulder) Please direct all questions, or report any problems to Sabine Eckhardt . In case of problems please send the values you have entered on the interactive webpage.

Fill in the values below to produce custom plots of FLEXPART archived tracers.
You can plot horizontal and/or vertical cross sections, as well as age spectra and/or time-height sections along a flight track.
The time-height sections can also be produced for a single station.
It is also possible to plot a flight track on a horizontal cross section.

Information on the projects with available FLEXPART products can be found here

To get an overview of currently available forecasts see FLEXPART and FLEXTRA static forecast products.

Fill in the following values regardless of what kind of plot you wish

  • Choose a project
Information on the different projects can be found here
    project:

  • Enter the tracer type
    tracer:

  • Would you like to plot tracer concentrations or mixing ratios?

  • Enter the maximum tracer mixing ratio/concentration and maximum column (in case of total column plots) to be contoured
max. mixing ratio (ppbv)/concentration (µg/m3): max. column (mg/m2):

  • Would you like to plot nested output fields?

  • Would you like to get your plots as post script, too?

  • For horizontal or vertical cross sections fill in the following values

  • Would you like to plot a vertical or a horizontal cross section?

  • Enter the tracer age you would like to plot:
    age class

  • Select the time of the cross-sections
    year month day hour

  • Would you like to plot a single image, or a movie?

If you would like a movie, the date entered above is the beginning time of the movie.
Now enter the ending time of the movie.
For movies longer than 24 images, the maximum movie length is automatically set to 24 images.
Please note that the production of movies can take a considerable amount of time.

    year month day hour

  • For horizontal cross sections fill in the following values
  • Enter the altitude (meters) of the horizontal cross-section
For a total column plot, enter -1
    altitude:

  • Would you like to plot meters above sea level or meters above ground level?

  • Enter the mimimum and maximum latitude and longitude values for the map projection
West longitude locations must include a negative sign

min. lat: max. lat: min. lon(left side): max. lon(right side):

  • For vertical cross sections fill in the following values
  • Enter the left-hand latitude and longitude of the vertical cross-section
West longitude locations must include a negative sign
    latitude: longitude:

  • Enter the right-hand latitude and longitude of the vertical cross-section
West longitude locations must include a negative sign
    latitude: longitude:

  • For age spectra, time-height sections and horizontal cross sections including a flight track fill in the following values
  • Would you like to plot age spectra, a time height section, or a horizontal cross section including a flight track?

  • Please upload a file containing dates, times and positions:
    The file must have the format: date[yyyymmdd] time[hrmmss] latitude[deg] longitude[deg] altitude[m]
Altitude must be given in meters above sea level
West longitude locations must include a negative sign
An example file for a flight track can be found here
For a single station the file needs to contain only two lines giving the start date, the end date and the position of the station.
An example file for a station can be found here
